2/19/2023 0 Comments Pencil thin stool![]() The pain seems to get worse after I eat and at night. I also have pretty much constant abdominal pain which is always on my right side and sometimes directly across from it on the left side. What brought me here to the club are symptoms such as bowel movements that alternate between being pencil thin and diarrhea. I commend each and every one of you for taking the time to share your experiences and everything that you have learned while battling the beast. I'm so happy to have stumbled upon this site as there is so much knowledge and support. I too am new here and have been lurking about for the past two weeks or so reading all of your stories. My wife is urging me to make an appointment but as I said I'm stubborn.įrontrunner3 wrote:Hello everyone. My grandmother had colon cancer and eventually passed away when it resurfaced on her lungs. My mother has had polyps removed from her colon. None of my immediate family have had colon cancer but my father has battled ulcerative colitis for years and now has his colon removed completely with an ileostomy. There isn't any blood that I can see but when I wipe there is almost always some dark brown on the tp. When I have the diarrhea it's full of mucus. It's always thin like sliced gyro meat or diarrhea. I can't remember the last time I had a solid normal looking bowel movement. The pain now is worse that it was back in the spring and the change in my bowel movements has been dramatic. I was referred to a GI specialist but I haven't made the appointment as of yet due to being stubborn and tough financial times. That came back clear no stones but they mentioned that I have an slightly enlarged liver with a diagnosis of fatty liver disease. When the pain first became noticeable back in the spring I thought for sure that it was gallbladder and I went to see my GP who had me do a CBC and an ultrasound on my gallbladder. ![]() The scope is the definitive diagnostic tool for colon cancer, so get it if you think you need it. ![]() Bottom line, go see a GI doc, get your fecal occult blood test at the very least, and if you're old, have history, or just want one, seek a scope for piece of mind. How old are you, is there history of CC in your family? I was diagnosed at 29, so I know age means little to the CC beast, but it does affect your likelihood of having cancer and will matter if you try and seek a scope.Īnd lastly, might there have been any reasons you were constipated in the first place and need to continue to take miralax to have BM's? Are you on any medications, and if so do you know if constipation is a side effect? Any dietary changes recently? Any change in your stress level (I'm serious)? Do you drink alcohol, perhaps in excess? Have you been keeping hydrated? Any one or combination of these might be reasons for semi-chronic constipation, and there are plenty of other medical conditions other than CC that might be at work here. ![]() You say you have no blood in your stool, does this mean you don't see any, or does this mean your GP ran a Fecal Occult Blood Test on you? Your eyes are a very POOR gague of blood in the stool unless it's really obvious, the test. Before I delve into possibilities, if I were you, I'd go see a GI doc, and if you don't know one, ask your GP for a referral. Miralax is a powerful laxative and it can really "have it's way" with your digestive system. Well, if you're still taking miralax, don't be hoping for standard shapes or frequencies.
